Multidisciplinary diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the upper and lower digestive tract, pancreas, liver and biliary tract; endoscopy of the gastrointestinal tract.
The main areas of interest include:
- acute and chronic pancreatitis and pancreatic cystic tumors,
 - liver and bile duct diseases,
 - gastrointestinal bleeding,
 - Helicobacter pylori infection,
 - gastroesophageal reflux disease,
 - inflammatory bowel disease, celiac disease and Clostridium difficile infections,
 - gastrointestinal tumors,
 - benign and malignant obstruction of the upper and lower alimentary tract,
 - benign and malignant obstruction of the pancreatic and biliary ducts.
 
Our department has developed particular expertise in the treatment of pancreatitis including sequelae of acute pancreatitis such as walled-off pancreatic necrosis, drainage of pancreatic fluid collections and treating complications of portal hypertension.
The Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Unit performs a wide range of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures including upper and lower gastrointestinal endoscopy as well as highly specialized interventions such as
- therapeutic cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) with endoscopic sphincterotomy, biliary and pancreatic duct stone removal, biliary and pancreatic duct stenting;
 - endoscopic treatment of acute pancreatitis complications including walled off pancreatic necrosis;
 - drainage of pancreatic fluid collections;
